Stop the presses! I found a recipe we ALL liked!

If you’ve read the “About Me” section, you know my family members’ tastes do NOT agree.  And we all have our little food idiosyncrasies.  However, I have found a recipe we all really enjoyed.  I got the basic recipe from the book Saving Dinner by Leanne Ely.  I tweaked it, given what I had and what I thought my family would enjoy.  I will post the original recipe then note what modifications I made.

Hungarian Hamburger Steaks

1.5 pounds lean ground beef

1 large onion, chopped

6 cloves garlic, pressed

3 t paprika

1.5 t dried marjoram

salt & pepper to taste

1 c low fat sour cream

In a bowl, mix together ground beef, onion, garlic, paprika, marjoram, salt & pepper until well combined.  Divide into 6 equal portions and form into patties.  Heat grill and grill on medium, turning every 2 minutes, until well browned but still juicy and slightly pink inside; 8-10 minutes.  Serve with sour cream for dipping.

Modifications:  I had about 2 pounds of ground beef.  I used half an onion since it was quite strong and minced garlic.  I sauteed the onion and garlic before adding to the beef.  I also used more seasoning than called for although I didn’t keep track of the amount.  I suggest putting the spices in, getting a tiny ball of meat mixture out (like a teaspoon’s worth) and browning it in a skillet to test the seasoning.  I did that and I’m glad I did, since to me, there wasn’t enough seasoning.  I also added some Mexican style chili powder.  I grilled them on the George Foreman.

I served them with buns and the usual condiments.  I also fried some cubed potatoes and served up a salad.

Enjoy and let us know how you like this recipe!
